Who do you think you are, Iain Hewitson or something?

Beautiful weekend, 25 degrees and sunny, outside in shorts, t-shirt and bare feet for the first time in Sweden... nice. My apartment block has a long balcony/pathway that everyone's front door opens on to, and everyone brought cushions and mattresses out to it and sunbaked and lazed about, so I actually met and befriended five neighbours in one day, after months of not meeting any with everyone locked deep inside their weather-sealed cocoons.

On Saturday night I had a belated housewarming party (had to wait until I had some friends) aka international food festival. Building on some quality experiences in Australia, I invited a bunch of people, mostly from my Svenska classes, uni, or my neighbours, to cook something from their home country and bring it along. I did Thai, since my earlier attempts to ween the swedes onto vegemite met with limited success.

Nationalities present: Chinese, Indian, Pakistani, French, German, Cameroon, Bolivian, Russian, fairly large contingents from Sweden and Poland, and (no kidding) special guest of honour Glen McGrath. True story, there was actually an Aussie guy there called Glen McGrath (with one 'n').

The food was absolutely sensational, smoked salmon, caviar, toothpick canapes of baked pig's blood and apple dipped in lingonberry jam (very very nice, actually), a Russian chicken/broccoli/cheese pie thing, boeuf bourguignon from France, a Cameroonian spicy stew, Swedish cardamom cake, several chinese, polish and indian things I don't know the names of, I did pla rad prik and thai beef salad...

Goons from around the world were sampled, including a couple of aussie drops (at vastly overinflated prices), and a polish fruity vodka thing which apparently is made from some kind of grass, and of course some Swedish moonshine.

some pictures:

That's my Swedish teacher Helena chatting to Jonathan from Cameroon.

Bellies full and inebriation underway, it was time of course for some jubbly sheesha action, and I must say it was a big hit.

That's Glen McGrath in blue with a bunch of Poles. He was fairly hammered.

Spent all Sunday lazing in the sun on a thermarest on the balcony, reading some Kerouac, drinking tea, and chatting to the neighbours again...

Overall, I give the weekend two very enthusiastic thumbs up.

Looks like you had a very warm house after all that people-filling-it-ness.

Can you send me your email address so that I can send you the promised pic of my bald head? That's if you really want to see my ugly mug.

Thanks for your donation i-rock!

yo bro, it is indeed much warmer! I had to turn down the central heating today! Might have something to do with the warmer weather, but I think it's mostly the party.

I'm a bit paranoid about putting my "good" email address on a blog, so I will transfer the requested information using a secure communication scheme known as katie.

With winter coming and a bald head, I hope you have a beanie!

I'm talking about crocheting doilies, it's a hobby that K and I have recently taken up... it's so hard to find time for in this modern life!

It's pretty disrespectful to call chicks 'doilies' Ian. And 'crocheting' them is just to visual a metaphor for me.

Well done anyway.

Also, did the 'crocheting' involve the menagerie predicted by my blog poll a few weeks back?
