Home Swede Home
I had a meeting at the Swedish consulate today about work permits and visas and stuff. Ahh, I love the accents! When they talk it makes me giggle! Oh, this is gonna be fun!
A couple of very nice Swedish ladies attended to me, one of them (who was not unattractive, must have been a fox in her day) said "You know, I met my husband when he came to Sweden to do a post-doc, so keep an eye out", then she made a clicking noise with her mouth like she was rousing a powerful stallion. There were no horses in the room, so it must have been me she meant.
Then I probed their brains for party info. They told me where to find real Swedish Aquavit (dare I go there again?) and lent me one of the consulate's official Swedish flags, which I have to give back next week. I'd better take care of it!
I also asked them where I could find Viking helmets, but the best they could suggest was $2 shops. Damnit!

without giving away my identity (and thus, at least some of my outfit): a party shop ian, try a party shop.
i can't believe they let you take one of their flags! you must have had to give them some assurance that patsy wouldn't be at the party!
p.s. check out this page on swedish etiquette....love the part about ensuring your clothes are up-to-date and fashionable!

"For a social gathering, informal more often than not means tastefully coordinated clothes"
Tastefully coordinated! Oh no! I'm ruined!
hmmm, on handshaking: "Smiling and other nonverbal forms of communication should not accompany the handshake when it is between people who have not met previously."
Do hip-thrusting motions count as nonverbal communication?
I would say not Ian... only one way to find out though really...
